Authorship

Find My Roots (FindMyRoots.online) was conceived, created and published by Mico Se'khu Hadjo Gentle on behalf of the Yamassee Tribe. The platform, its research methodology, its compiled indexes and its brand are works of the Yamassee Tribe.

Retained rights

The Yamassee Tribe expressly retains all inherent, aboriginal, treaty, customary, cultural, intellectual and proprietary rights in this platform and in the tribal materials it makes available. These rights exist independently of, and are not created by, any external acknowledgement process. The absence of federal acknowledgement does not extinguish, diminish or waive them.

Operation on statutory Native land

This platform is administered from and under the authority of the Yamassee Tribe upon statutory Native land, in accordance with tribal law and custom. Governance, records administration, cultural review and dispute resolution are matters of tribal authority.

No waiver of sovereign immunity

Nothing on this site, in its terms, or in any communication constitutes an express or implied waiver of the sovereign immunity of the Yamassee Tribe, its government, officers, agents, employees, enterprises or instrumentalities. Any waiver must be express, in writing, and authorized by the tribal government.

Cultural patrimony

Tribal rolls, oral histories, ceremonial knowledge, language material, images and community records remain the cultural patrimony of the Yamassee Tribe and of the families and communities from which they came. They are shared for personal and family research. Commercial exploitation, republication, bulk export, derivative datasets or model training on this material is prohibited without prior written tribal authorization.

Respect for other nations

Records concerning other tribes and nations are presented as historical documents. Find My Roots does not speak for, determine citizenship in, or claim authority over any other nation. Each nation alone decides its citizenship and enrollment.

Jurisdiction

Use of this platform is subject to the law of the Yamassee Tribe. Claims arising from use of the service are to be brought before the tribal forum designated by the Yamassee Tribe, subject to the immunities stated above.
