Evidence, not proof
Find My Roots returns historical records and research leads. A record is evidence that a document exists and says something — it is not confirmation that the person in it is your ancestor. Strong candidates require multiple matching anchors of name, date, place and relatives. Anything else is labeled an unverified lead.
No determination of identity, citizenship or enrollment
Nothing produced by this service establishes tribal citizenship, enrollment, membership, blood quantum, nationality, heirship or legal status. Only the government or nation with authority over those determinations can make them. A historical roll entry, a racial classification in a record, or a DNA percentage is not citizenship and is not proof of identity.
Historical language
Original wording and spelling from historical documents are preserved, including terms that are offensive today. They are shown as evidence of how a record classified a person, never as a statement of who that person was.
Absence of results
If a search returns nothing, that means nothing matching was found in the sources searched at that moment. It is not proof that a record, a person or a relationship never existed.
Artificial intelligence
AI features explain, compare and summarize evidence that the research engine already retrieved. They do not create records, citations or ancestors, they do not assign match scores, and they may still make mistakes. Verify important conclusions against the original documents.
